The Priority of Prayer
Prayer is simply listening to, and talking to God. Every Christian should pray as frequently as possible. They should pray with others as well. We don't just pray for ourselves, we pray for others. Every activity at Good News should be covered in prayer by the members of the church. Fasting can also be a critical part of prayer. (Luke 5:16)
The Authority of Scripture
Since God's Word is the only completely reliable and truthful authority, we accept the Bible as our manual for living. Our first question when faced with a decision is "What does the Bible say?" We practice daily Bible reading, Bible study and Bible memorization. The Bible is the basis for all we believe. (2 Tim. 3:15)
Biblical Stewardship
At Good News, we practice tithing for the support of Christ's body, the church, as God commands. We recognize that giving 10%, by the members of the church, of our gross income is the Biblical standard of giving. Tithing also includes our time and talents. (Col. 1:18)
The Ministry of the Holy Spirit
We believe the only way possible to live the Christian life is by God's power within us. So we seek to practice a daily dependence on God's Spirit to enable us to do what is right (Phil. 2:13, Eph. 5:18). In addition, we believe that every believer has spiritual gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit and that they can and should be used to build and strengthen the church body (1 Cor. 12:7,11). (John 15:5)
Philosophical
Seeker Sensitivity
We need to speak to people in a language that they can understand. Good News will strive to make visitors feel as comfortable as possible in the church without compromising Who God is and what He is about. Sermons, music and dress will all reflect sensitivity in this area. (1 Cor. 14:10-11)
Priority of Family
We all came from someplace that wasn't Christian. Every person that comes into Good News should feel totally accepted by those to whom they come in contact with. Every person should feel as if they are part of our family here at Good News. (1 Cor. 6:11)
Every Member a Minister
The Bible teaches that every Christian is called to "full time" Christian service, regardless of his or her vocation. We practice the truth that every believer is a minister by encouraging every member to find a place of service and ministry. Every believer has direct access to God through prayer and Bible reading. (1 Peter 4:10)
Saving the Lost
It is the responsibility of every Christian to share the Good News with those with whom God brings us into contact. We practice personal sharing about Christ and inviting friends to church. (1 Peter 3:15) |
